Fight The Dry This Winter

Cracked lips, dull complexion and dry, lifeless skin; say hello to Winter. As the temperature drops, so does the amount of moisture in our skin leaving us feeling dehydrated and pining for our pre-winter glow. The cooler conditions and the chill in the air does not discriminate; it effects even the dewiest of complexions and for those who suffer from sensitive skin conditions, Winter can be a relentless phenomenon when it comes to the integrity of our skin.

To avoid the Winter Dry, attention must be paid, and the ante must be upped if you wish to fight the flake and keep your skin quenched from its Winter thirst.

Here are our top tips to fight the dry this winter:

  1. Um, skin care (obviously);

With humidity stripped from the air, we need to supplement our skin with a more extensive skin care regimen as it gets cooler. Our top tip; MOISTURISE! Replenishing your skin with much needed moisture is the sure-fire way to fight the dry this Winter. For those with eczema or other skin conditions that leaves them dry, a rich, creamier moisturiser should take up residency on your vanity this season. For our normal to oil prone skin, this still applies. Oily skin does not mean hydration. Moisturiser is imperative to maintaining balance and keeping skin fresh and glowing even the dryer months, for all skin types.

  • Avoid Hot Showers;

Hot showers and winter kind of do go hand and hand, and let’s face it, you’re already thinking about soaking in a steamy bath the minute you leave the house but dousing your skin is hot water will strip the moisture from your skin in seconds. Hot baths and showers can dissolve the protective barrier in the skin which will eventually lead to dryness.

If you can practice restraint when turning up the heat, please do, in the name of your skin! If you simply can’t deny yourself a steaming hot shower then remember, an intense moisturiser should be applied moments after to lock in the moisture

  • Cleanse with care;

As much as you love your cleanser, you may need to switch it up in winter, particularly if you are susceptible to dryer skin. Be sure to bench any cleansers that contain drying ingredients, like fragrances or additives. Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser that will still do the job without stripping the skin of its natural oils which are needed to protect overall moisture.
