Advanced Skin Treatment FAQs

Skin Consultations

Whether it be an upcoming event, a specific skin concern, or just general prevention against ageing; a skin consultation is our chance to thoroughly understand what has brought you to Face Fit.

Your consultation is a conversation between you and your Dermal Therapist over a cup of herbal tea, on all things YOU. Using skin analysis and tools such as imaging with our Observ, we can take a look above and below the skin surface to show you how your skin is functioning.

To arrive best prepared for your consultation, arrive with clean make-up free skin and either bring in or bring a photo of any products you are currently using. Be sure to also note the name of any medications or supplements you are taking (as some medications can affect the way your body responds to different treatments).

You can expect to leave your consultation with a deep understanding of the internal and external factors influencing your skin. We will provide you with a tailored treatment and product plan, (80% of your results come from your at home routine!) to achieve your skin goals.

With the help of our experienced Dermal Therapists and your on-going commitment, you will know you are on the right path to healthier skin and a more confident you.

Skin Needling

A Skin Consultation is required before any Skin Needling treatment to ensure patients are suitable and well prepped for the treatment.

Skin Needling is recommended for patients wanting to target: scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, tightness, skin tone and pigmentation.

At the time of your Skin Consultation your Dermal Therapist will assess the current condition of your skin and your at home skin care routine and give you recommendations based on this. All patients will need to prep prior to Skin Needling to ensure the best possible results.

Downtime is a strong word, however, we would definitely say there is ‘social downtime’ following your Skin Needling procedure. Skin can appear ‘flushed’, similar to moderate sunburn directly following treatment and for up to 24-48 hours following depending on the individual. You may have mild tingling and skin tightness during this time and will be required to follow a strict aftercare routine (with products provided by us as part of your treatment); avoiding make-up, as well as anything that generates extra heat in the body (eg. exercise). During this time it is vital you follow the provided aftercare instructions to avoid any undesirable results. Between day 1-7 you may also feel dry and experience some flaking, it is important not to pick at this or exfoliate until the time in which your Dermal Therapist has indicated.

Compared to some of our other treatments, Skin Needling can be slightly more uncomfortable depending on what we are treating and how deep we are needling. However, everyone has different pain tolerances and many patients find it was more comfortable than they were expecting!

We generally recommend having Skin Needling every 4-6 weeks if you are on a course.

This can vary from person to person depending on what we are targeting. We recommend starting with a course of 4 treatments and re-assessing after that. Results from needling continue to be seen for 6-12 months as collagen is naturally produced by the body. We may also advise to do needling in combination with other treatments to get the best results.

With any skin treatment there is always a possibility that you may slightly break-out afterwards. Skin Needling stimulates our skin and any congestion that was underlying may come to the surface.

We prefer not to numb for Skin Needling treatments to ensure we get the best result. However some clients ask to be numbed so we can offer topical anaesthetic for our Skin Needling treatments.

Skin needling is safe during pregnancy and for breastfeeding mums, as long as we aren’t using any topical anaesthetic. However, our wound healing ability can be compromised during these times as our body focuses on the important task of growing and nourishing a small human! For this reason a Skin Consultation is a must to chat through desired treatment outcomes and best treatment options for you.

Plasma needling may be recommended to target certain skin concerns. Plasma is naturally occurring in the blood and contains unique growth factors that can aid in the restore and repair functions of the skin.

Clear and Brilliant

A Skin Consultation is required before any Clear and Brilliant treatment to ensure patients are suitable and well prepped for the treatment.

Clear and Brilliant is recommended for patients wanting to target: complexion and skin tone, pigmentation, appearance of pores, ageing and rejuvenation.

At the time of your Skin Consultation your Dermal Therapist will assess the current condition of your skin and your at home skin care routine and give you recommendations based on this. For best results, patients will need to prep prior to their Clear and Brilliant treatment.

Downtime is a strong word, however, we would definitely say there is ‘social downtime’ following your Clear and Brilliant procedure. Skin can appear ‘flushed’ and feel warm, similar to moderate sunburn directly following treatment and for up to 24-48 hours, depending on the individual. You may have skin tightness during this time and will be required to follow a strict aftercare routine avoiding make-up, as well as anything that generates extra heat in the body (eg. exercise). It is vital you follow the provided aftercare instructions to avoid any undesirable results. Between day 1-7 you may also feel dry, rough and experience some flaking, it is important not to pick at this or exfoliate until the time in which your Dermal Therapist has indicated.

Compared to some of our other treatments, Clear and Brilliant can be slightly more uncomfortable depending on what we are treating and which handpiece we are using. However, everyone has different pain tolerances and many patients find it was more comfortable than they were expecting!

Yes, we do offer topical anaesthetic for our Clear and Brilliant treatments.

We generally recommend having Clear and Brilliant every 4 weeks if you are on a course.

This can vary from person to person depending on what we are targeting. We recommend starting with a course of 3-6 treatments to target specific concerns, however Clear and Brilliant can also be used in combination with other treatments to achieve desired results. Results from Clear and Brilliant can continue to be seen for 6-12 months as collagen is naturally produced by the body.

With any skin treatment there is always a possibility that you may slightly break-out afterwards. Clear and Brilliant stimulates our skin, any congestion that was underlying may come to the surface.

As most patients prefer to be numbed for their Clear and Brilliant treatment, pregnant or breastfeeding mums are not the ideal candidates for this treatment. Book a Skin Consultation with one of our Dermal Therapists to chat about this further and discuss alternate treatment options for you.

HydraFacial

The HydraFacial treatment is designed for most skin types and is especially beneficial for those feeling congested, dull and lifeless, and those looking for a hydrated luminous glow.

Patients with active acne and those who have a lot of broken capillaries may be more suitable for other treatments, this will be discussed in your Skin Consultation.

HydraFacial requires no prep and can generally be done immediately following your initial Skin Consultation if your Dermal Therapist deems you suitable.

Sunburn, recent cosmetic or injectable treatments and other skin treatments (within a certain timeframe, generally 2-4 weeks depending on the treatment).

No, you will leave with a beautiful fresh glow! We do recommend avoiding sun exposure, hot showers, saunas, exercise, waxing and make-up for roughly 24 hours post treatment to ensure the best results.

Not at all! The handpiece glides over the skin using light suction, however it is painless. A slight tingling sensation may be experienced during the peel step.

You can have a HydraFacial every 4 weeks.

With any skin treatment there is always a possibility that you may slightly break-out afterwards. As the HydraFacial gently exfoliates and stimulates our skin, any congestion that was underlying may come to the surface.

If you are wanting to have a HydraFacial before a specific event, we recommend booking 1 weeks prior if this is a concern for you.

Yes! We are able to slightly modify the treatment to be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mums, allowing them to still have a beneficial and completely safe treatment!

Dermablading

Dermablading is designed for most skin types. Patients with active acne and those who have skin barrier impairment may be more suitable for other treatments, this will be discussed in your Skin Consultation.

Dermablading requires no prep and can generally be done immediately following your initial Skin Consultation if your Dermal Therapist deems you suitable.

Sunburn, recent cosmetic or injectable treatments and other skin treatments (within a certain timeframe, generally 2-4 weeks depending on the treatment) may contraindicate you from having treatment on the day.

No, you will leave with a beautiful fresh glow! We do recommend minimising sun exposure, hot showers, saunas and exercise for the first 12 hours if you can, due to possible increased sensitivity.

No. Dermablading is a very comfortable procedure.

We recommend Dermablading every 4-6 weeks.

As Dermablading is a form of gentle exfoliation there is always a possibility that you may slightly break-out afterwards.

Yes! Dermablading is completely safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mums.

The only way to affect hair growth is to alter the root of the hair. Treatments that work on the surface of the skin cannot affect the root, which is located beneath the surface. The hair on our face is called vellus hair “peach fuzz” and our natural hair has a gently tapered end which makes the hair feel soft. Dermablading removes the hair at an angle rather than straight across and therefore the hair is tapered rather than blunt. As the hair grows back it will go back to feeling soft.

LED Light Therapy

While we often associate light exposure with negative effects such as skin ageing and damage, light also has many positive influences on the body. It helps us produce vitamin D and provides energy and serotonin for example. It can also accelerate tissue healing.

The differences between the positive and negative effects of light are the amount and the parts of the light spectrum we are exposed to. Whilst on-going exposure to UV is very damaging, controlled levels of Red, Blue and Near Infrared light are clinically proven to be beneficial.
LED Phototherapy is the application of beneficial light to our skin to stimulate various cellular processes to produce a therapeutic effect.

Dermalux® uses evidence-based wavelengths delivered at a skin-enhancing intensity and dose to activate cellular renewal and repair, fuel the manufacture of collagen and elastin, reduce inflammation and destroy acne causing bacteria.

Following a Dermalux® LED Light treatment, there are some immediate visible changes in the skin but most changes occur naturally over a series of treatments. LED instantly awakens a tired and dull complexion. After just one treatment skin is hydrated, plump and radiant and redness and irritation is calmed. LED Phototherapy also promotes a feeling of wellbeing, helping to relieve the stresses and strains of everyday life!

A course of treatments is best and depending on your skin and medical history we usually recommend our patients start on an intensive course of 2 treatments per week for 1 month to kickstart their results, followed by maintenance treatments after that. LED offers lasting improvement in the appearance and health of the skin and results may continue to be seen up to 4 to 6 weeks.

Dermalux LED Light Therapy can also be used in combination with your regular skin treatments to optimise and accelerate results.

No, not at all, it is extremely relaxing.

Skin Peels

The HydraFacial treatment is designed for most skin types and is especially beneficial for those feeling congested, dull and lifeless, and those looking for a hydrated luminous glow.

Patients with active acne and those who have a lot of broken capillaries may be more suitable for other treatments, this will be discussed in your Skin Consultation.

As we offer a variety of Peels, your dermal therapist will discuss with you what prep may be required for each peel prior to completing the treatment. However, we do offer peels that require no prep, as long as your skin barrier is not compromised.

Sunburn, recent cosmetic or injectable treatments and other skin treatments (within a certain timeframe, generally 2-4 weeks depending on the treatment) may effect our ability to treat you on the day.

You may experience a slight tingle or warm sensation that subsides, but no pain.

You can have a peel every 2-4 weeks depending on the peel.

With any skin treatment there is always a possibility that you may slightly break-out afterwards. As Peels gently exfoliate and stimulates our skin, any congestion that was underlying may come to the surface.

If you are wanting to have a Peel before a specific event, we recommend booking 1 weeks prior if this is a concern for you.

Yes! There are a range of peels we offer that are suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mums, allowing them to still have a beneficial and completely safe treatment!

Cosmelan

A Skin Consultation is required before any Cosmelan treatment to ensure patients are suitable and well prepped for the treatment.

Cosmelan is recommended for patients wanting to target: skin tone and pigmentation.

We encourage patients to book in for the treatment in the cooler months (April – September) due to the hot summers we experience on the Gold Coast. Sun Safety following treatment is one of THE MOST important factors in treatment success.

Downtime varies from person to person but can last anywhere from 5 to 10 days. The skin may appear slightly red and swollen when initially washing off the mask at home which can last a few days. The skin may also feel tight and start to flake in the weeks following the initial treatment.

The application of the mask in the clinic is painless. Though patients may experience slight discomfort in the first couple of weeks of the process due to the increased sensitivity and flaking of the skin.

No. Due to the strong active ingredients used in Cosmelan, it is not suitable for pregnant patients or breastfeeding mums.

Cosmetic Injectable Treatment FAQs

Dermal Filler

The consistency of each filler is determined by the amount of cross-linking. To achieve optimal results, different areas of the face require different consistencies.

As part of the normal aging process our face will naturally lose fat and bone volume. In addition to this, our skin loses collagen and elasticity causing thinning and skin laxity.

Dermal Filler is a non-surgical treatment that involves injecting filler under the skins surface to volumise, sculpt, contour and correct

Dermal Filler can be injected into the following areas:

  •       Lips
  •       Cheeks
  •       Chin
  •       Jawline
  •       Nasolabial Fold (smile lines)
  •       Marionettes (corners of the mouth)
  •       Tear Troughs (under the eyes)

We require all patients to complete a medical history form prior to your appointment.

If you get cold sores, antiviral medication may be recommended. Please call the clinic prior you your appointment to discuss this further.

If you are taking a fish oil supplement, you may wish to stop these 3 days prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising. If you are taking any prescribed blood thinning medication, please contact the clinic prior to your appointment to discuss this further.

Sunburn, recent cosmetic or injectable treatments, skin treatments, and vaccinations (within a certain timeframe, generally 2-4 weeks depending on the treatment) may affect our ability to treat you on the day.

After your Dermal Filler treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity for 24 hours. We also ask that you avoid putting extended pressure on the treated area for example when sleeping or getting a massage for 24-72 hours following treatment.

Swelling and bruising can occur, the extent of which varies from person to person. Please contact the clinic if you have any concerns following your injectable appointment.

Some patients may experience discomfort or pain during filler treatment, this can vary from person to person and depend on the area being injected. We offer topical anaesthetic to reduce sensitivity in the treatment area.

Results can be seen immediately after your Dermal Filler treatment. It is important to keep in mind that you will likely be swollen and possibly bruised in the area, majority of swelling will go down in the first 72 hours however it can take 2-4 weeks to see your final result.

Dermal Filler will usually last from 6 to 24 months. Each filler will have a different longevity depending on structure of the filler and the area it is injected. As each body is different the timeframe it will take for a person’s body to break down the filler will differ from person to person.

When you first start having an area treated you may need to have more regular treatments to reach your desired outcome.

No, Dermal Fillers are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

You must be 18 years of age regardless of parental consent to undergo dermal filler treatment.

Anti-Wrinkle

Anti-Wrinkle Injections cause a relaxing effect on the targeted muscle. With the muscle no longer contracting, existing lines will be softened, and future lines will be prevented from forming.

The following areas can be treated with Anti-Wrinkle Injections to reduce fine lines and wrinkles:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Crows Feet (around the eyes)
  • Bunny lines (lines formed when scrunching the nose)

  • Reducing Vertical Neck Bands (slimming the neck)
  • Masseter Muscles

After your Anti-Wrinkle treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity for 24 hours. We also ask that you avoid putting extended pressure on the treated area for example when sleeping or getting a massage for 24-72 hours after treatment.

Some patients may experience slight discomfort or pain during treatment, this can change from person to person and depend on the area being injected.

Results can usually be seen within 7-14 days of treatment.

Anti-Wrinkle will usually last approximately 12 weeks. As each person is different the timeframe it takes to wear off will differ from person to person.

There are some areas that usually won’t last as long, such as a lip flip, due to the muscles being very active in this area.

We recommend having treatment every 12 weeks to prevent lines and wrinkles returning and maintaining results.

No, Anti-Wrinkle Injections are not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You must be 18 years of age regardless of parents’ consent to receive Anti-Wrinkle Injections.

Sculptra

Firm and Lift Treatment / Sculptra is a biostimulator that contains micro-particles of poly-L-lactic acid (PPLA).

Typically results are seen one month after each treatment, with gradual improvements up to one year after treatment.

Firm and Lift Treatment / Sculptra dosing typically requires 1 vial per decade of age.

For example: A 50 year old client typically requires 5 vials.

You will have 1-2 vials per session and appointments are 4-6 weeks apart.

To maintain your results, 1-2 vials will be required every 12 months.

The ideal Firm and Lift Treatment / Scupltra client is one who is wanting to gently restore volume, improve all over skin quality and one who doesn’t prioritise instant results.

Firm and Lift Treatment  / Scupltra is used to treat clients who have:

  • Loss of bony structure (facial and skeletal changes, as a result of bony loss that happens with age).
  • Loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Clients with naturally occurring volume loss that results in a sunken and tired appearance.

Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure. Firm and Lift Treatment / Sculptra also contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic that will ease most of the treatment discomfort.

No. Firm and Lift Treatment Injections are not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Skin Boosters

Skin boosters are made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA) and are designed to replenish and maintain natural hydration levels, rejuvenating the skin from the inside.

Skin boosters are suitable for most people and can be injected into the face, neck, chest, and hands.

This treatment is great for targeting:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dehydrated and/or dull skin
  • Acne scarring & pitting
  • Aged skin

Clients will usually notice an immediate improvement in tone & texture. Skin Boosters leave the skin smooth, hydrated, and luminous. This effect will improve with every treatment. The full effect of treatment may take up to 4 weeks.

For best results we usually recommend 3 treatments, 3-4 weeks apart.

Results from Skin Boosters may last for up to 12 months. Regular maintenance sessions are recommended every 6 months to achieve lasting results.

Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure. Skin boosters also contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that will ease most of the treatment discomfort.

No. Skin Boosters are not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You must be 18 years of age regardless of parental consent to undergo treatment with Skin Boosters.

Hyperhydrosis

Nerves are responsible for sending messages to activate our sweat glands. When muscle relaxing injections are used, the message signaling our glands is temporarily blocked, reducing the amount of sweat produced.

Excessive sweating primarily affects the hands, feet, armpits, and face. These areas can all be treated with Hyperhidrosis treatment.

Like all treatments, individual results will differ from person to person. On average, results will last 3-9 months. Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results.

Each affected treatment area will require several injections, however, topical numbing cream can be applied reducing most of the discomfort.
Most people will notice a reduction in sweating within 3 to 14 days.

No. Hyperhidrosis treatment is not recommended for people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You must be 18 years of age regardless of parental consent to undergo treatment for Hyperhidrosis.

PRP Injections Treatment

There are many benefits of PRP injections. Some of these include:

  • Improving elasticity in the skin
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimise the appearance of scarring
  • Stimulates production of collagen
  • Stimulates new hair growth on the scalp
Patients should undergo a minimum of 3 treatments, approximately 4 – 6 weeks apart. The exact amount of treatments you require will depend on what we are treating. Scalp treatments to promote hair growth will require a more intensive course. Maintenance treatments are recommended yearly.

Patients should expect swelling and bruising post treatment, however, this will vary from person to person.

The treatment is minimally invasive. Topical anaesthetic can be applied to the area prior to treatment to help minimise discomfort during treatment.
Results can be seen from roughly 6 weeks post treatment and will continue to improve with each treatment.
As we are injecting your own plasma, things such as drinking, smoking, stress and illness can affect the quality of your plasma.

You must be 18 years of age regardless of parental consent to have PRP injections.
